Zante things to Do

Theatrical companies,present their work in public speeches,which are unplanned sketches full of social comments performed by men,wearing carnival costumes. On both Sundays, the Parade of the King Carnival goes around the island influencing the visitors as well as the locals and taking them over.

Easter and celebrations

If you decide to visit the island during the celebration of Holy Week you will be regarded by the exceptional and unforgettable  experience  both for the  locals and the visitors. At midday,on Good Friday,crowds of worshippers take part in the procession of the Crucified through the town.During  the early hours of Holy Saturday morning and from the "Saint Nicolas" Cathedral Church the epitaph procession takes place (in accordance with the ancient custom), while the Bishop announces the Resurrection at the rising of the sun.Also the Feast of the Virgin Mary on the 15th of August is one of the most important feasts in Zakynthos.A religious ceremony is held in honour of the Virgin, followed by dances,eating and drinking until dawn.

Wine Feast A wine festival is organised in the capital of Zakynthos  that takes place from the last days of August to the first days of September during which the excellent wines produced by the locals can be tried by the visitors.

Shopping

With an impressive variety of goods to offer,from top designer labels and exquisite haute couture clothes to the best local products form wine to honey,Zakynthos has something to offer to every visitor.You will find shops  open  on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday  form 9 am-3 pm and on Tuesday and Thursday 9 am-8 pm.Also be aware that tourist shops remain  open 9 am-10 pm. For the whole week.An impressive display of  art and crafts can be found  in shops all over the island.Don't hesitate to taste the famous Zakinthos "mandolato" or nougat which  is a real treat.Excellent gift ideas for your close ones can be traced to the various shops of the island.Buy your dad  a bottle of Ouzo,your mum a silver photo frame and your grand mother some local produced delicacy.

Beaches

 The beaches of the island are stunning and will with no doubt cast a spell on you.A number of beaches like Laganas, Gerakas Alikes,Argassi are welcoming you in order to unravel to you their magic. Starting from Alikes and Alikanas beaches which connect to form one long sandy beach ,they can be found  in the north east of Zante and you will undoubtedly be impressed by the famous blue caves.Alykes is a small friendly resort with a wide range  of bars, restaurants, tavernas, shops and supermarkets.Ideal for swimmers of all levels , these stunning beaches are safe for children as well. Also Argassi beach,only 5 minutes from Zakynthos town,located in the south east of Zante, in a resort of the same name has a sandy beach and has numerous coves waiting for you to explore them and feel the magic of the island taking over you!
